Baseball Wraps Up Myrtle Beach Weekend Against SNHU

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The 15th-ranked Molloy baseball team battled against the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University, but ultimately fell, 5-1, Sunday afternoon on Griffith Field at the Ripken Experience. The Lions move to 6-1 on the season, while the Penmen improve to 3-5.

How it Happened
  • After two scoreless innings, Southern New Hampshire cracked the scoreboard with a two-RBI single to go ahead, 2-0, in the bottom of the third.
  • The Lions responded in the top half of the fourth. Junior Patrick Sanchez led off with a walk and moved to second on a passed ball to kick off the inning.
  • Following a ground out that moved Sanchez to third, senior Matt Yip drove the first pitch he saw into centerfield for an RBI single to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.
  • In the bottom of the frame, the Penmen looked to get the run back with runners on first and third with one out, but graduate student Robert Lucano induced an inning ending 5-4-3 double play to keep the score at 2-1.
  • The Lions looked to tie the game in the top of the seventh, with two runners on and one out, but they could not cash in, keeping the score 2-1 in favor of Southern New Hampshire.
  • The Penmen would go on to score two runs in the seventh, one in the eighth, and hold the Lions to two hits for the remainder of the contest and go on to win, 5-1.

  • Sanchez totaled a hit and a run scored.
  • Seniors Aidan Larkin and Chris Giardino, and junior Nicholas Dagnello totaled a hit each.
