Buffalo, N.Y. - The volleyball team fell to the Saints of D'Youville University, 3-1, this afternoon from Saint Center Gym. The loss sets Molloy at 12-10 on the season and 3-5 in East Coast Conference play while D'Youville is now 9-13 (5-3 ECC).
How it Happened
- After early ties to start the contest, the home Saints put together a run of five-straight points to lead, 8-4.
- Kills from senior Julia Zalta and junior Roberta Monticelli would help the Lions within one, 10-9, before a kill and a block from junior Sara Hiebert, a block from freshman Isabella Rios, and a kill from graduate student Kiarra Roth put Molloy in front, 15-14.
- D'Youville would lead by as many as four and in need of just one point to take the set before the visitors were able to once again knot the contest, 24-24.
- The comeback would not be enough as the next two points went in favor of the Saints to give them the first set.
- Molloy responded with a 6-1 run to open the second set, featuring three-straight aces from Rios.
- The home team would come within two points, but the Lions remained in front and took the second set.
- The Saints led the final two sets from open to close to take the match victory.
Top Performances
- Roth and Hiebert each led with 11 kills, a season-high tally for Hiebert, who also topped the Lions with five blocks.
- Monticelli, Zalta, senior Rebecca Meier, and freshman Franki Kelleher each had four kills.
- Rios led with three aces and 12 digs.
- Roth, Zalta, and junior Aria Miller each had seven digs while senior Alex Brown had six.
- Senior Angelina Scichilone tallied two aces.
