Flushing, N.Y. – In its regular season finale, the Molloy women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over the Knights of Queens College, Saturday afternoon at Knights Field. The Lions will enter postseason play 10-4-2 overall and 7-0 in East Coast Conference play, while the Knights finish the regular season 9-6-1 overall and 4-3 in league play.
For the first time in program history, the Lions will enter the postseason unblemished in conference play.
How it Happened
- The game began as a possession battle, as windy conditions didn't allow either team to push the ball forward without being impaired.
- In the 16th minute, Queens generated its first chance with a shot from Gabrielle Ciambella that was saved by sophomore goalkeeper Elyse Muñoz.
- The home team would continue to apply pressure in the 20th and 22nd minute off a pair of shots from Julia Ragone that missed target.
- Ragone continued to threaten in the 34th minute, firing a shot that Muñoz was able to corral and save.
- The Knights would total two shots that would miss target and hold the Lions without a shot in the first half, sending the contest into halftime scoreless.
- Six minutes into the second half Molloy picked up its first shot of the afternoon, from senior Alessandra Borsellino who had her shot saved by Queens goalkeeper Samantha Hines-Hirsch.
- After winning a corner kick in the 63rd minute Molloy broke through. Freshman Bella Juliano sent in the right to left kick and found the head of freshman Megan Wetzel, who headed it into the net to put Molloy in front, 1-0.
- Queens looked for the equalizer in the 72nd minute, but Muñoz made a big save in net to keep the Lions ahead.
- The cardinal and white would not allow a chance for the remainder of the contest and would go on to seal the victory, 1-0.

- Wetzel netted her first collegiate goal.
- Juliano collected her first assist of her career.
- In goal, Muñoz made three saves to collect her seventh shutout of the season.
