Rochester, N.Y. - A monumental women's lacrosse season came to an end in the semifinal round of the East Coast Conference Championship as the third-seeded Lions fell to the second-seeded Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University this evening from Redhawks Field, 13-7. Molloy ends the year at 12-5.
How it Happened
- Goals from senior Amanda Weber and junior Kelly Bergersen helped Molloy to a tied 2- score after ther first 15 minutes of play.
- The Redhawks would score the first four goals of the second quarter, going in front by an insurmountable four-goal lead.
- Bergersen fed sophomore Alexa Amorison for a goal to end the second quarter to stop the bleeding and bring Molloy within three.
- The lead would increase to six goals, 9-3, before goals from Weber and senior Alyssa Licata brought the Lions back within five.
- Sophomore Sofia Quitoni and senior Jamie Maddaluno would score in the final quarter to round out the scoring for Molloy.
Top Performances
- Bergersen led with three points on one goal and two assists to go with two ground balls.
- Weber (two goals) and sophomore Megan Rugolo (two assists) each added two points and combined for nine draw controls and five ground balls.
- Junior Joanna Mauceri, sophomore Reilly Brady, and senior Ryan Smith each picked up three ground balls.
- Weber led with three caused turnovers while Mauceri, Smith, and junior Erin Murphy each forced two.
- Sophomore Mary-Kate Sweeney made seven saves in net.
