Hockessin, Del. – The Molloy baseball team fell to the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom, 10-9, Wednesday afternoon at Doyle Field. Molloy moved to 16-9 with the loss, while the Lightning improved to 16-9.
How it Happened
- An RBI double from junior Anthony Manisero and an RBI ground out from graduate student Jake McCarthy had the Lions in front, 2-0, in the top of the first inning.
- The home team cut the lead in half, 2-1, following a solo home run in the bottom of the opening inning.
- Molloy added two runs in the second with a pair of RBI singles from graduate student Robby Keane and junior Garrett Scavelli to extend the lead to 4-1.
- The Lightning responded in the bottom of the frame, rallying to three runs to knot the contest at four.
- Goldey-Beacom continued its offense in the fourth, getting four more runners to cross the plate, three coming off a home run to take a 8-4 lead.
- The sixth inning saw the Lions begin its comeback, Scavelli drove in a pair of runners with a double and Manisero scored Scavelli with a single to bring Molloy within one, 8-7.
- Keane knotted the contest at eight in the seventh inning, slashing a double into left center field to score junior Chris Einemann.
- The cardinal and white reclaimed its lead in the following inning when junior Aidan Larkin recorded a sacrifice fly to put the Lions in front, 9-8.
- Goldey-Beacom tallied two runs in the bottom of the ninth and pull out the come from behind victory, 10-9.
Top Performances
- Scavelli totaled three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
- Manisero collected three hits, drove in two runs, and scored a run.
- Keane added two hits and two RBIs.
- Einemann, sophomore Tom Lebrecht, and junior Matt Yip scored two runs each.
