Coram, N.Y. – The Molloy women's bowling team battled for the ECC Championship this weekend hosted by Adelphi University at Coram County Lanes. After three days of grueling matches on the lanes, the Lions finished as the runner-up to the title, falling to Mercyhurst, 2-0, in the ECC Final Megamatch.
Day One
- Friday began the opening of pool play, where the keglers would bowl five qualifying matches to determine the seeding in bracket format.
- Molloy opened the tournament with a 881-681 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas before falling to Mercyhurst in a close knit match, 917-900.
- The Lions would run off three consecutive victories to conclude pool play, taking down host Adelphi, 933-655, Daemen, 883-805, and Roberts Wesleyan, 908-882.
- Despite a 4-1 record and totaling 4505 pins, the cardinal and white qualified seventh and entered the double elimination round against tenth-seeded Adelphi, where the Lions would take down the Panthers, 4-0, heading into day two.
Day Two
- Double elimination format was in full force on Saturday as all the teams were set for a best-of-seven baker format for the right to earn a spot in the championship match.
- Molloy opened the day with a 4-2 match victory over second-seeded Kutztown, where they put together scores of 215, 193, 193, and 183 to move on in the winner's bracket.
- The triumph set the Lions up against the third-seeded Daemen Wildcats. After falling behind 2-1 to the Wildcats, Molloy ran off three match victories totaling pinfalls of 235, 233, and 201 to clinch a 4-2 match victory to advance to take on top-seeded Mercyhurst for a spot in the ECC Final.
- Against the Lakers, the Lions would fall, 4-1, moving them into the elimination bracket to set up a match with Kutztown on day three for the right to bowl for the ECC Championship.
Day Three
- Sunday morning began with the Lions taking on the Bears. Molloy took down the second-seed, 4-1, in a best-of-seven baker match setting Molloy up with a showdown in the ECC Final Megamatch.
- The ECC final format was scheduled for a traditional total pin fall match, a total pin fall baker match, and a best-of-seven winner take all final match if necessary.
- The traditional match was close throughout the morning but Mercyhurst would take it, 1044-971.
- The two squads would now head to a five-game total pinfall baker match, where the Lakers would top the Lions, 1044-899, to clinch the title.
