Boca Raton, Fla. – The Molloy baseball team fell to the Chargers of the University of New Haven, 7-3, Sunday afternoon at Lynn University. The Lions move to 8-6, while the Chargers improve to 9-2.
How it Happened
- The Lions started quickly in the top of the first as graduate student Jake McCarthy singled home sophomore JJ DeVito to put the Lions in front, 1-0.
- New Haven responded with three runs on five hits in the bottom of the frame to take the lead, 3-1.
- The home team tacked on a fourth run in the bottom of the second to extend its lead to three, 4-1.
- The contest stayed at 4-1 through the next three innings as pitching and defense kept the game at bay.
- In the top of the sixth, junior Matt Yip connected for a two-run home run over the left center field fence to bring Molloy within one, 4-3.
- The Chargers answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull ahead, 7-3, and would go on to seal the victory.
Top Performances
- Yip blasted his first home run of the season and drove in two runners.
- Devito and junior Chris Einemann tallied a hit and scored a run each.
