Tappeto Named Defensive Player of the Year; Eight Named All-Conference

West Babylon, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference released its 2023 women's soccer All-Conference teams and major award winners Friday afternoon. The cardinal and white collected eight All-Conference honors, highlighted by senior Sarah Tappeto who was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year.
 
Tappeto and sophomore Olivia Ingenito was named to the All-ECC First Team, graduate students Caitlin Kennedy and Lauren Marinello were named to the All-ECC Second Team, and graduate student Jackie Murphy, senior Joanna Mauceri, junior Natalia Piotrowski, and freshman Isabella Muro collected All-ECC Third Team honors.
 
As a follow up from her historic 2022, Tappeto collects her first career Defensive Player of the Year and her third consecutive First Team selection. The team captain has totaled 19 points (seven goals and five assists) on the campaign good for third in the conference, while being a part of a backline that has allowed 0.94 goals per contest. The defender has tallied four game-winning goals on the season including the game winner in Molloy's 1-0 victory over Queens (Nov. 2) to advance the Lions into the ECC semifinal.
 
In her first full season with the cardinal and white, Ingenito earns a spot alongside Tappeto on the First Team. The sophomore has appeared in all 18 contests and has scored 10 goals on the season, good for second in the conference. The Sound Beach native collected two multi-goal performances and has tallied goals in seven games.
 
In her grad season with the Lions, Kennedy earns Second Team honors. The forward is tied for third in the conference with seven goals, while totaling 52 shots including 27 on goal for 0.519 shots on goal percentage.
 
After joining the squad during the contest against Caldwell (Sept. 6), Marinello earns Second Team recognition after garnering Third Team honors in 2019. The two-way midfielder has been a catalyst for the squad, totaling 12 points (four goals and four assists) and providing leadership to a young midfielding unit that features three freshmen.
 
Murphy earns her second consecutive All-Conference nod as a Lion this season on the Third-Team. After being named one of three captains this season, she has appeared and started in all 18 contests and has logged 1,579 minutes of action while being part of a stout back line of defense.
 
For the third straight year, Mauceri finds herself with an All-Conference nod and collects her second career Third Team selection. One of the leaders of the back line, Mauceri has appeared and started in all 18 contests while logging a team-high 1,613 minutes.
 
Piotrowski collects her first career Third Team honor and her second consecutive All-Conference selection. The hybrid defender has also appeared and started in all 18 contests, while tallying 1,608 minutes played, netted a pair of goals against Jefferson, and was named team captain in 2023.
 
In her first season in Rockville Centre, Muro collects a Third Team All-Conference selection. The explosive freshman has made an immediate impact on the pitch, dishing out six assists good for second in the conference and tied a single-game program record with three assists against D'Youville (Oct. 18). The Middle Village native has appeared in 16 contests making 15 starts, has totaled 23 shots, 14 on goal, and 1,129 minutes played.
