#6 Women’s Soccer Falls to #2 Adelphi in NCAA East Regional Semifinal

Garden City, N.Y. – The sixth-seeded Molloy women's soccer team fell to the second-seeded Adelphi Panthers, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Motamed Field. The Lions finished the season 12-5-5.
 
How it Happened
  • The first opportunity came from the Panthers 2:04 into the contest, but freshman Elyse Muñoz made an early save.
  • 17 minutes would go by until the next opportunity, but Muñoz made another save.
  • Both defenses would not give an inch of advantage as open space was hard to come by.
  • The 29th minute saw Adelphi try Muñoz yet again, but the freshman made her third save of the opening 30 minutes to keep the game scoreless.
  • The Panthers cracked the scoreboard in the 34th minute, as a ball through the six-yard box found Alexis Hellman who scored to put Adelphi in front, 1-0.
  • Molloy's first chance came three minutes later. Graduate student Lauren Marinello was able to create space and fire a shot that was saved by Adelphi goalkeeper Krista Aliscio.
  • Neither team would garner a shot in the final eight minutes of the half, sending the contest to halftime with Adelphi leading, 1-0.
  • Coming out of the locker room, the home team was able to add to its lead, following a second goal from Hellman to go ahead, 2-0.
  • The Panthers would generate two chances in the 58th minute, but Muñoz made a pair of saves to keep the Lions within two.
  • Freshman Isabella Muro found space in the 63rd minute, streaking down the right flank and fired a shot, that just went wide of target.
  • 15 minutes would go by and Adelphi would put the game away for good, scoring its third goal of the afternoon in the 78th minute and would go on to solidify the victory, 3-0.
Top Performances
  • Senior Joanna Mauceri paced the team with two shots.
  • Marinello and graduate student Caitlin Kennedy totaled one shot on goal apiece.
  • In goal, Muñoz made six saves.
