Women's Basketball Falls to AIC

Springfield, Mass. – The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the Yellow Jackets of American International College, 73-53, inside Henry A. Butova Gymnasium Sunday afternoon. The Lions move to 3-11 overall, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 7-7 overall.
 
How it Happened
  • The two teams traded baskets to begin the contest, the game was tied at five 3:07 in.
  • The Lions went on a 10-2 run with scoring contributions from, junior Trinity Hudson, sophomore Samantha Muller, and freshman Rosa Rizzitelli to take a 14-7 lead with under three minutes left in the opening stanza.
  • AIC closed the quarter on a 11-2 run, to hold a 18-16 lead heading into the second quarter.
  • Baskets from Muller and Hudson kept Molloy within one, 21-20, 2:34 into the second stanza.
  • The home team put together a 12-3 rally to pull ahead, 33-23, with 1:29 remaining in the first half. Molloy trailed, 35-26, heading into halftime.
  • Muller opened the second half with the first five points for the Lions, but Molloy trailed, 41-31, midway through the third quarter.
  • The Yellow Jackets would not allow the Lions to get any closer than 10 in the third, taking a 55-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • Molloy opened the final stanza with a 7-2 rally to cut the deficit to 11, 57-46, but that is as close as the Lions would come as AIC would go on to close out the contest victorious, 73-53.
Top Performances
  • Hudson totaled a game-high 22 points and eight rebounds on 50 percent shooting.
  • Muller tallied 12 points and five rebounds while shooting two-of-three from three-point range.
  • Rizzitelli added nine points in 36 minutes played.

Molloy resumes conference play Wednesday, January 11 as they welcome UDC to Rockville Centre. The contest against the Firebirds is slated for 5:00 p.m.
