Five-Run Sixth Inning Propels #2 Baseball over #6 Franklin Pierce to advance to East Regional Final

Uniondale, N.Y. – The #2 Molloy baseball team triumphed, 6-4, over the #6 Franklin Pierce Ravens Friday afternoon at Mitchel Field. The Lions improved to 38-12 overall, while the Ravens moved to 29-16.
 
How it Happened
  • After holding Molloy scoreless in the top of the first, Franklin Pierce sophomore Hunter Wilichoski belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the frame to give the Ravens a 3-0 lead.
  • In the top of the second, sophomore Garrett Scavelli led off with a double and came around to score following an RBI groundout from senior Patrick Hoffman. Molloy trailed, 3-1, after two innings of play.
  • After three innings of scoreless baseball, the Lions put together a five-run sixth to take a, 6-3, lead. Redshirt senior Thomas Brady singled home senior Vincent Pecora, Scavelli came up two batters later and singled into left to knot the game at three, two runs scored following an error, and senior Robby Keane capped the inning with an RBI single.
  • After returning from a lightning delay, the Ravens cut the deficit to two, 6-4, with a run scoring off an error in the bottom of the eight.
  • In the bottom of the ninth inning with the tying run at the plate, freshman Connor Huckemeyer struck out Max Gebauer to end the contest, with the Lions securing the, 6-4, victory.
  • Graduate student Mike Andreoli pitched seven innings allowing five hits, three runs, and collected three strikeouts to improve to 11-2 on the season.
  • Huckemeyer threw the final two innings gave up one run, none earned, one hit, and struck out three to earn his third save of the year.
