Uniondale, N.Y. – The top-seeded Molloy baseball team fell to the fourth-seeded STAC Spartans, 3-2, Thursday afternoon at Mitchel Field in the first game of the ECC Championship.
How it Happened
- The Spartans jumped off to an early 3-0 lead following a three-RBI double from Gregory DiGiaro in the top of the first.
- Graduate student Matt Overton led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run cutting the deficit to two, 3-1.
- After three innings of scoreless baseball, with runners on first and third, junior David Franchi singled through the right side that scored redshirt senior Thomas Brady, Molloy trailed, 3-2, after six innings of play.
- In the bottom of the ninth, sophomore Chris Einemann started the inning with a lead-off single and was sacrificed to second. But was left stranded there as STAC closed out the, 3-2 victory.
Top Performances
- Overton and Franchi recorded two hits and an RBI each.
- Junior Charlie Cucchiara pitched seven innings gave up eight hits, three runs, and struck out four.
- Graduate student Brian Morrisey threw two innings, allowed one hit, and struck out two.
