Rockville Centre N.Y. – The Molloy women's lacrosse team defeated the STAC Spartans, 22-11, Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improve to 9-7 overall and 4-2 in ECC play, while the Spartans fell to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in league play. With the win the Lions clinched the number three seed in the East Coast Conference Championship.
How it Happened
- Junior Amanda Weber and sophomore Hailey Dazzo started the home team with a goal apiece to take a, 2-0, lead 2:23 into the first quarter.
- STAC netted a goal to cut the lead in half, 2-1 with 11:53 to go in the first quarter.
- Over the next eight minutes of action, the Lions put together a 5-0 scoring run, with a pair of goals coming from senior Abbie Bellport, and goals from junior Joana Mauceri, Dazzo, and Weber to take a commanding, 7-1, lead.
- With 3:44 to go in the first, the Spartans found the back of the net to cut the deficit to five, 7-2.
- Bellport and junior Haille Ross scored goals 34 seconds apart to increase the lead back to seven, 9-2.
- Danielle Cajou scored her first goal of the game to stop the scoring run, Molloy led, 9-3, with 2:04 remaining in the first.
- Freshman Alexa Amorison capped the opening stanza with a pair of goals to push the Lions ahead, 11-3, heading into the second quarter.
- The maroon and white continued its offensive attack in the second, scoring the first four goals of the quarter. Weber netted a pair of goals, Mauceri, and Dazzo scored the other two to put Molloy ahead 15-3.
- After STAC scored to make it, 15-4, Amorison netted her third of the contest, to propel Molloy ahead, 16-4, going into halftime.
- Senior Kara Rosenberg scored 35 seconds into the third quarter to increase the Molloy lead to 17-4.
- Later in the third, senior Megan Schiaffo and Bellport scored a goal apiece to keep Molloy ahead, 19-5.
- Sophomore Erin Murphy brought the third quarter to a close with a pair of goals. Molloy took a, 21-6, lead into the final quarter.
- The Spartans scored five goals in the fourth quarter, but Molloy secured the victory, 22-11.
