Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The Molloy softball team split a doubleheader with the Mercy Mavericks, 18-5 and 1-3, Saturday afternoon at Smith Field. The Lions moved to 16-22 overall and 8-6 in ECC play, while the Mavericks moved to 8-29 overall and 6-8 in league play.
Game One: Molloy 18, Mercy 5
- Junior Karsyn Eaton put the Lions up, 1-0, in the first with an RBI single to left field.
- After the Mavericks tied the score, 1-1, in the bottom of the first, Eaton walked with the bases loaded, and senior Amanda King hit a grand slam to make it 6-1 Molloy.
- In the bottom of the frame, the home team tallied four runs to make it 6-5.
- Senior Alex Burns hit a three-run home run in the third to increase the maroon and white's advantage to 9-5.
- The Lions used a nine-run sixth inning to extend their lead to 18-5. Eaton scored on a double play, junior Emma Bachman and Burns hit two-RBI singles, Eaton hit an RBI single, and King capped the rally with a three-run home run.
- In the circle, King pitched four shutout innings and struck out three to improve to 7-10 on the season.
Game Two: Molloy 1, Mercy 3
- Mercy scored one run in the first and two in the second to take a 3-0 lead.
- In the sixth, Eaton reached on a fielder's choice, which scored sophomore Chrissie Huhn and cut the home team's lead to 3-1.
