Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw, but fell in penalty kicks, 5-4, to Mercy College Saturday afternoon in the ECC Final at Mercy Field. The Lions conclude the season 12-4-3, while Mercy improves to 13-2-2.
How it Happened
- The first chance of the game came from Mercy in the 13th minute, when Ancksu Dixon put her shot wide of target.
- Junior goalkeeper Shannon Kilian made a save on Skyler Schwenkler to keep the game scoreless in the 28th minute.
- Junior Sarah Tappeto had a shot in the 45th minute, but her shot was sent wide. The game was scoreless going into halftime.
- The Mavericks had the first chance of the second half in the 51st minute, Kilian denied Kayla Camacho of the goal to keep zeroes on the scoreboard.
- Mercy increased its pressure in the 66th minute, firing three shots, two saved by Kilian, and one was sent high.
- In the 70th minute, junior Eleni Sofroniou generated a scoring chance, but her shot went wide left of target.
- In the 72nd minute, the home team had a chance to crack the scoreboard but two defensive saves by freshman Abigail Smith, and junior Joanna Mauceri kept the Mavericks from scoring.
- Neither backline would allow the other team a shot for the remainder of the half. The game was sent to overtime.
- In the first ten-minute overtime period, sophomore Natalia Piotrowski had her shot go wide right, and a chance by Mercy forward Madison Rosa went high over the net. The game remained scoreless.
- In the final overtime period, Kilian denied the only chance of the ten minutes from Mercy, sending the ECC Final into penalty-kicks.
- The Mavericks would go on to net five penalty kicks in the shootout to clinch the victory, 5-4.
