Women’s Soccer Falls to Holy Family

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Molloy women's soccer fell to the Tigers of Holy Family University, 1-0, Thursday evening at Tiger Field. The Lions conclude the regular season 11-4-2 with the loss, while the Tigers improve to 6-4-7.
 
How it Happened
  • Holy Family generated the first scoring opportunity four minutes into the contest, but junior goalkeeper Shannon Kilian made a save.
  • Molloy answered with a chance of its own when from graduate student Morgan Camarda had her shot saved in the ninth minute.
  • Junior Sarah Tappeto had her shot denied seven minutes later, to keep the game scoreless.
  • In the 31st minute, the home team netted a goal off a free kick to put them ahead, 1-0.
  • Senior Lexi Verni looked to tie the contest one minute later, but Tigers goalkeeper Emily Vickalitis kept Molloy off the scoreboard.
  • With 2:22 remaining in the first half, senior Joanna Graca created a chance, but again, Holy Family would keep Molloy intact and hold a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
  • 44 seconds into the second stanza, Camarda put a shot on goal that was saved.
  • Verni and Tappeto fired shots on goal in the 53rd and 54th minute, but Vickalitis made a pair of saves to keep the Tigers in front.
  • Over the next 20 minutes of action, the Molloy attack fired ten shots, including five on goal, but could not break the scoreboard, trailing 1-0 with 15 minutes remaining in the contest.
  • With 31 seconds remaining in the contest, junior Eleni Sofroniou had the final opportunity of the evening, but her shot hit the post, to end the game with Holy Family on top, 1-0.
 
Top Performances
  • Camarda paced the team with eight shots, including three on goal.
  • Tappeto totaled four shots on goal.
  • The Lions outshot the Tigers 25-10.

Molloy will be the second seed in the upcoming East Coast Conference Championship and will host the third-seeded team on Wednesday, November 2 at John A. Darcy Field. The opponent and time of the match is to be announced.
