Flushing, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team defeated the Knights of Queens College, 6-1, Saturday evening at Queens College Field. The Lions improved to 8-2-2 overall and 4-1 in ECC play, while the Knights fell to 1-8 overall and 1-4 in league play.
How it Happened
- Molloy defender Lindsey McCarthy began the scoring with a goal in the 6th minute to give Molloy a 1-0 lead.
- Senior Lexi Verni and sophomore Natalia Piotrowski saw their shots saved by Queens goalkeeper Ariana Vargas.
- In the 21st minute, junior Sarah Tappeto netted her first goal of the year to increase the Lions lead to 2-0.
- The home team was outshot 11-1 in the first half, but their shot found the back of the net in the 41st minute to cut the lead down to, 2-1, going into halftime.
- The first two shots of the second half netted in a pair of goals from Junior Eleni Sofroniou. Molloy led, 4-1, with under 40 minutes remaining in the contest.
- In the 62nd minute, Queens created an opportunity, but the shot was denied by junior goalkeeper Shannon Kilian.
- McCarthy scored her second goal of the game in the 73rd minute to push Molloy ahead, 5-1.
- The final goal of the evening would come from graduate student Morgan Camarda when she buried a penalty kick for the second time this season.
- The Lions would go on to win, 6-1.
