#14 Women’s Soccer Falls to Caldwell in Overtime, 2-1

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The 14th-ranked Molloy women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season as it fell to the Caldwell Cougars in overtime, 2-1, Wednesday evening at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions moved to 4-1, while the Cougars improved to 2-3.
 
How It Happened
  • Molloy outshot Caldwell 17-10, including 7-2 in the first half.
  • The Lions forced Caldwell keeper Jamie-Lee Bamford to make nine saves.
  • In the ninth minute, sophomore Brenna Glover was denied from close range by Bamford.
  • Sophomore Eleni Sofroniou had one effort go wide, while the other got blocked in the opening 45 minutes.
  • The match was scoreless at the break.
  • The Cougars took the lead in the 52nd minute when Sarah Contanza headed in the rebound after Hannah Marino's shot struck the crossbar.
  • In the 71st minute, junior Lexi Verni's effort from just inside the box was tipped onto the crossbar by Bamford.
  • Off the resulting corner kick, sophomore Sarah Tappeto played it short to junior Sabrina Bell, who sent a rocket from the left corner of the box into the net to level things up for the Lions.
  • The match was even, 1-1, after 90 minutes.
  • Alexa Peto scored the winner for Caldwell in the 98th minute.

  • Bell scored her first collegiate goal.
  • Tappeto registered her first assist of the season.
  • Verni led the team in shots with six, including four on target.
  • Senior Jackie Carty made three saves.
