Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Routs STAC in Senior Day Victory, 18-4

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The men's lacrosse team defeated the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans men's lacrosse team, 18-4, this afternoon from John A. Darcy Field. Molloy improved to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in ECC play while STAC fell to 0-3 and 0-1 in ECC play.

How it Happened:

  • It was Senior Day in Rockville Centre, so before the game, the maroon and white honored its five seniors,Timothy Berry, Sean Colbert, Darryl Hilaire, Jeff Hauser, and Colin Kotarski.
  • Molloy started fast, scoring the first seven goals of the game courtesy of two from freshman midfielder Chris Delaney, and one each from senior attacker Jack Egan, sophomore attacker Sean Plasencia, freshman attacker Jason Rebaudo, and sophomore attacker Scott Capicchioni before STAC got its first goal of the game with 3:31 left in the first quarter.
  • At the start of the second quarter, STAC found the back of the net two more times before Delaney completed the hat-trick, scoring his third marker of the game to make it 8-3 Lions with just over half of the quarter remaining.
  • Molloy had more offense left in the tank before the end of the first half as Kotarski nabbed a pair of goals coupled with goals from Hauser and junior attacker Brian Ford to give Molloy the 12-3 lead at halftime.
  • The maroon and white defense would be a brick wall in the third quarter keeping STAC off the board entirely while freshman goalie Adam Hyman stopped all eight shots he faced in the quarter.
  • The Lions offense would roar again with four more goals of their own courtesy of Delaney on the man-down, senior midfielder Nick Del Giorno, sophomore attacker Ryan Downing, and freshman attacker Rob Del Giorno.
  • The Spartans scored one more goal at the start of the four quarter, but a final pair of goals from the elder Del Giorno helped seal the 18-4 Senior Day win.

Key Performers:

  • Delaney was a force for the Lions today, setting a new career-high in goals and points with five and six, respectively.
  • Three members of the Molloy offense also had multiple-goal performances with Del Giorno, Kotarski, and Ford each nabbing two goals of their own.
  • On the defensive side of the field, sophomore midfielder Thomas Mauro led the team in ground balls with seven and also was 16-of-22 at the face-off dot. Junior defender Jordan Arbouet caused three turnovers this afternoon with Rebaudo causing two of his own
  • In the net, Hyman led the way with eight saves and his second career victory with Berry playing a quarter's worth of action and making five saves of his own.
