Big Second Half Leads Women's Basketball Past First-Place Daemen

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy women's basketball team topped the Daemen Wildcats, 68-61, Friday evening at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions improved to 19-8 overall and 11-4 in ECC, while Daemen fell to 21-4 overall and 13-2 in conference play.

How it Happened
  • The Lions jumped out to a 6-2 lead, sparked by four points from junior Gabriella Aspuru.
  • The Wildcats ended the frame on a 17-4 rally and led 19-10 at the end of the first quarter.
  • Molloy started the second stanza on a 9-0 run, led by five points from junior Jenna Silletti, to even the score at 19.
  • Down 25-22, Daemen netted six straight points to take a 28-25 advantage.
  • Sophomore Katie Marquardt hit a three-pointer before the end of the half and the game was knotted at 28 at the break.
  • With the score even at 39, the maroon and white ended the third quarter on a 9-1 run, led by three points from senior Kathryn Gibson and a buzzer beater from graduate student Kadijah Dickson, and went up 48-40 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
  • Dickson made a layup to make it 59-48 with 4:03 left helping the Lions to a 68-61 victory.
Top Performances
  • Aspuru netted a team-high 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
  • Dickson tallied 15 points and eight rebounds.
  • Silletti recorded 11 points, and Gibson added nine points in the win.

  • The maroon and white hosts Roberts Wesleyan Sunday, March 1 on senior day. The game with the Redhawks is scheduled for noon at Quealy Gymnasium.
