Ramos Drives in Six Runs in Softball's Sweep of Holy Family University

Clermont, Fla. – The softball team picked up two wins this afternoon at the PFX Spring Games, sweeping the Tigers of Holy Family University in a doubleheader. The Lions improved to 3-6 on the season with the victories.

Game 1: Molloy 10, Holy Family 0
  • After a scoreless first inning, the maroon and white got on the board with a two-run double from freshman Lauren Ramos.
  • The Lions doubled the lead in the third inning following a sacrifice fly from freshman Amanda King and a single from freshman Angelique Serrano.
  • A double from senior Kaitlyn Snyder and a sacrifice fly from sophomore Courtney Greene gave Molloy a 6-0 lead after four innings of play.
  • King, Serrano, and Ramos picked up additional RBIs in the seventh inning, paired with a sacrifice fly by senior Tara Byrnes to round the score out at 10-0.
  • Ramos led with three RBIs, going 2-of-4 at the plate. Serrano (2-of-4) and King (1-of-2) each drove in two runs.
  • King also struck out four batters through five innings for the first victory of her collegiate career. Senior Jenna Turato fanned three in two innings of relief.
 
Game 2: Holy Family 4, Molloy 5
  • The Tigers started off with a 3-0 lead after the first inning, capitalizing on defensive errors by the maroon and white.
  • Molloy put a run on the board in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly from Ramos. Sophomore Tonianne Larson cut the deficit to just one run two batters later on a single up the middle.
  • Holy Family doubled its lead in the fourth inning, scoring on a bunt single to set the score at 4-2.
  • An RBI single from Greene brought the Loins within one after five innings of play.
  • A two-run double from Ramos put Molloy in front, 5-4, en route to the eventual victory.
  • Ramos drove in three runs, going 1-of-2 at the plate.
  • Greene recorded two hits for the Lions.
  • King and sophomore Sarah Glaser each added a stolen base.
  • Turato tossed 6.1 innings to improve to 2-3 on the season, striking out seven batters.
 
Looking Ahead
The Lions return to the field tomorrow (Mar. 11) at 9:00 a.m. against West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
