Flushing, N.Y. – The Molloy women's soccer team topped the Queens College Knights, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at Knights Field. The Lions, who are ranked #5 in the East Region, finished the regular season 13-4-1 overall and 5-3 in ECC play, while the Knights fell to 7-9-1 overall and 1-6-1 in league play. Molloy clinched a berth in the ECC Championship with the win.
How it Happened
- The maroon and white struck first in the eighth minute. Junior Dana Poetzsch finished a passing sequence with junior Jessica Mauro and sophomore Lexi Verni to make it 1-0.
- Sarafina Smith scored for Queens to even the match, 1-1, in the 40th minute.
- Poetzsch, who was assisted by senior Amy D'Eloia, found the back of the net in the 42nd minute to give the Lions a 2-1 advantage.
- Molloy outshot the Knights 12-3 in the second half, and junior Jackie Carty made one save in the second frame to secure the 2-1 victory.
Top Performances
- Poetzsch tallied her 21st goal of the season and 47th point of season, which leads the ECC.
- Verni is second on the team with four assists.
- D'Eloia and Mauro each recorded their second helpers of 2019.
- Carty made three saves in the win.
