Pleasantville, N.Y. (May 4, 2018) – The Molloy baseball team defeated the Pace Setters, 6-2, Friday afternoon at Finnerty Field. The Lions improved to 27-19 overall with the victory. Sophomore
Sean Hogan tallied one hit and three RBIs, and senior
Jack McCarty collected three hits and one RBI.
Molloy scored four runs in the fourth inning to go up 4-0. Freshman
Matt Overton reached on a fielder's choice, which allowed McCarty to score. Later in the frame, Hogan hit a double to center, which drove in three runs and increased the maroon and white's advantage to 4-0.
In the fifth, McCarty hit a double down the left field line to make it 5-0.
Freshman
Jake McCarthy drilled an RBI double to left center to extend the away team's lead to 6-0 in the sixth.
Pace (16-19-1) plated one run in the seventh and ninth innings to cut the Lions' lead to 6-2.
Senior
Kevin Hiss threw five shutout innings, allowed two hits, and struck out one batter to improve to 8-3 on the season.
Molloy and Pace conclude its series with a doubleheader at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex tomorrow, May 5. The first game is scheduled to begin at noon.
