Uniondale, N.Y. (May 12, 2018) – The second-seeded Molloy baseball team fell to the top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans, 3-2, in the East Coast Conference title game Saturday afternoon at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex. The Lions moved to 31-21 with the loss. Senior
Elijah Leerdam led the maroon and white with two hits.
The Lions opened the scoring in the second inning. Freshman
Jake McCarthy singled to center field to make it 1-0. Later in the inning, sophomore
James Messina grounded into a fielder's choice, which allowed McCarthy to score.
St. Thomas Aquinas (36-13) plated three runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 advantage.
Junior
Michael Wall led off the ninth with a single, but the Spartans were able to hold on to their lead.
Senior
Anthony Catinella threw six innings, gave up three runs on four hits, and struck out three.
