Markowitz Sets Single-Season Goal Mark in Win Over Roberts Wesleyan

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2018) – Senior Jessica Markowitz netted eight goals leading the Molloy women's lacrosse team to a 16-12 victory over the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks Saturday afternoon at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improved to 10-7 overall and 5-3 in ECC play. Junior Brianna Wilson tallied five points (three goals and two assists).

Molloy opened the scoring with a goal from Wilson, who tallied her 200th career point in the contest. Roberts Wesleyan (9-8, 3-5 ECC) tallied back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 advantage. The Lions knotted the score on a goal from redshirt junior Ali Pfeifer.
The Redhawks tallied the next two goals to go ahead 4-2. Markowitz, who has scored a career-high 61 goals this season, found the back of the next twice before the end of the half to tie the score, 4-4.

Markowitz tallied three of the first four goals of the second stanza to put the maroon and white ahead 7-5. Wilson increased the lead to 8-5 with a goal. The Lions maintained a three-goal lead until Markowitz scored to make it 11-7. The visitors then made it an 11-9 contest with consecutive goals. The home team netted three straight goals by sophomore Amanda Reyes, Markowitz and Pfeifer to make it a 14-9 game. The Redhawks cut the lead to 15-12, but that was as close as they would get.

Wilson controlled 10 draws, picked up three ground balls, and caused two turnovers, and freshman Kaitlyn Meyer and senior Lindsey Rzempoluch each caused one turnover and recorded three ground balls. Freshman Alexandra Long made nine saves in the win.

The Lions finished the regular season as the fourth–seed and host fifth-seeded Roberts Wesleyan in the first round of the ECC Tournament Tuesday. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
