Tim Steinman netted his fourth hat trick of the season as the men's lacrosse team fell short against #13 LIU Post, 8-4. The Lions fell to 6-5 on the season and 0-3 in East Coast Conference play in the loss.
Steinman buried a feed from sophomore
Jeff Hauser to start the game's scoring, but the Pioneers responded with two goals, taking its first lead of the evening. With seven minutes left to play in the first frame, sophomore
Kevin Pastier scored on an assist from junior
Michael Scheuerer to knot the contest. LIU Post ended the quarter with three goals, taking a 5-2 lead.
The visiting team increased its lead to four goals in the second frame, but Steinman netted two straight markers to bring Molloy within two, 6-4, with just under seven minutes left in the third quarter.
The maroon and white were silenced in the final stanza, while LIU Post added its eighth of the contest to seal its fifth straight victory.
Steinman's three goals led the Lions with three points; Scheuerer tallied two assists on the performance for two points. Sophomore
Brandon Leon caused a career-high seven turnovers and led with four ground balls. Senior
Ryan Toomey made 12 saves in net.
Molloy will return to action on Saturday (Apr. 14) against Wheeling Jesuit University. Face-off from Darcy Field is slated for 12:00 p.m.
