ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 3, 2017) – On Saturday (Apr. 1), women's rugby traveled to Stella Maris Convent in Rockaway Beach, N.Y., an assisted living home for approximately 20 Sisters of St. Joseph. With the help of Scott Salvato of Campus Ministry and Patrick Tracy at St. Joseph's College, the student-athletes were able to assist the residents by giving the convent a fresh coat of bright paint.
"My teammates and I had so much fun painting the convent and spending time with the sisters," said team captain
Elizabeth Kaminski (West Hempstead, N.Y.). "I'm grateful for the opportunity to meet an incredible group of inspiring women!"
During a break for lunch, members of the team had the opportunity to chat with the residents of the convent to learn more about the sisters' and their vocation.
"It was such a heartwarming experience to be able to go to the convent and help out," remarked junior
Caroline Nickels (Floral Park, N.Y.). "The sisters were so happy to see us and excited to get to know us, but we were just as excited to get to know them as well. My teammates and I were able to not only give back to the community, but also connect with our religious side. I would love the opportunity to go back and help more."
