ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2017) – The Molloy women's lacrosse team fell to the Mercy Mavericks, 14-7, Friday evening at John A. Darcy Field on senior day. The Lions move to 10-5 overall and 4-4 in East Coast Conference play.
Sophomore
Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.) led Molloy with three goals. Senior
Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) added two points (one goal and one assist). Junior Grace Davidson (West Islip, N.Y.) scored a game-high six goals for Mercy, which improved to 15-2 overall and 6-2 in the ECC.
Davidson scored two of the game's first three goals to put the Mavericks ahead 3-0. Sophomore
Casie Caiazza (Melville, N.Y.) found the back of the cage to cut the Mercy lead to 3-1. Mercy netted the next two tallies to increase its lead to 5-1. Sesselman scored to make it 5-2, then the Lions, led by two goals from Wilson, and Mercy traded goals to make it a 7-4 game at the half.
The Lions opened the second half with a goal from sophomore
Michaela Siegler (Levittown, N.Y.) to bring Mercy's lead to two, 7-5. But the Mavericks scored the next three goals of the game to bring their lead to 10-5. Molloy answered with back-to-back tallies from Sesselman and senior
Laura Rice (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) to cut the lead to 10-7, but the road team scored the final four goals to secure a 14-7 win.
Sesselman controlled a team-high four draws, senior
Alexa Watson (North Massapequa, N.Y.) and junior
Lindsey Rzempoluch (Farmingdale, N.Y.) picked up three ground balls each, and sophomore
Alyssa Chetti (West Babylon, N.Y.) made 15 saves in the losing effort.
Prior to the game, Molloy honored its eight seniors: Watson, Rice, Sesselman,
Jenna Nostramo (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.),
Lindsay Cafiero (Bethpage, N.Y.), Teresa Ferreri (Mineola, N.Y.),
Brittany Lang (Hicksville, N.Y.), and
Gabrielle Batista (Hicksville, N.Y.).
