ORANGEBURG, N.Y (Apr. 17, 2017) – The Lions, fueled by a perfect game from senior
Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.), picked up two wins in a doubleheader at Dominican College, improving to 22-14 on the year.
Game One: Molloy 1, Dominican 0
The Lions found themselves competing in an intense pitcher's duel with the Chargers, with junior
Brianna Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) managing the only hit for either team, a double down the left field line, through the first four innings.
The short stop walked to lead off the fifth inning; junior
Bernadette Mullane (Bellmore, N.Y.) was brought in to pinch run, and advanced to second following an error by Dominican's catcher. A single from junior
Tiana DeOliveira (Mastic, N.Y.) moved Mullane to third. In the next at bat, senior
Ashley Fedor (Monroe, Conn.) drove her in with a sacrifice fly to right field to score the game's only run.
Junior
Olivia Banulski (Bristol, Conn.), Dalton, and DeOliveira all recorded hits.
Hawks pitched a complete game, retiring the Chargers in order and totaling 14 strikeouts, as she etched her name into the Molloy history books with the program's first perfect game.
Game Two: Molloy 3, Dominican 0
The second contest remained scoreless through five innings, with Hawks' dominant day extending to a total of nine perfect innings.
Molloy got on the board in the top of the sixth inning, sparked by singles from Banulski and graduate student
Milan Botte (San Diego, Calif.). Freshman
Mikaela Tribby (Boca Raton, Fla.) flied out to right field, advancing both runners into scoring position, allowing Banulski to score on a single from Dalton.
Dalton stole second to once again put two runners in scoring position for DeOliveira, who singled to left field to double Molloy's lead. A throwing error from the short stop scored Dalton to make it 3-0.
The defense of the maroon and white and pitching from sophomore
Jenna Turato (Garden City South, N.Y.) kept the Chargers off the board through the final two innings to earn their second straight shutout of the afternoon.Turato threw four innings, surrendering three hits while striking out three batters.
The maroon and white continue their series of road contests tomorrow as they head to Queens College at 3:00 p.m.
