ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 13, 2017) – The Molloy softball team split a doubleheader with New York Institute of Technology at Bob Klein Field at the RVC Sports Complex. The squad now sits at 19-13 on the season and 9-5 in East Coast Conference play.
Game One: Molloy0, NYIT 3
The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a double from Christine Rizzacasa (North Bellmore, N.Y.), scoring Christine Olivas (Temple, Ariz.) and Kaitlyn Lanksbury (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Brooke Scherer (Westbury, N.Y.) added another run in the fourth inning with a double to center field.
The Lions threatened to score in the bottom of the seventh, as junior
Sarah Rambo (Eagleville, Pa.) singled to lead off the inning, advancing to second on a wild pitch. Senior
Ashley Fedor (Monroe, Conn.) doubled to left field to move the first baseman to third. The maroon and white were unable to bring in the run, falling 3-0.

Olivia Banulski (Bristol, Conn.) all registered hits. Senior
Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) pitched a complete game, giving up three runs on four hits while striking out eight batters.
Game Two: Molloy 2, NYIT 1
In the second contest, neither team registered a hit through three innings. In the top of the fifth, Scherer led off with a solo home run to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
The maroon and white responded in the fifth of the inning, tying the contest. Junior
Alexandra Russo (Coram, N.Y.) singled to center field, advancing to third following an error by NYIT's first baseman during sophomore's
Kaitlyn Snyder (Smithtown, N.Y.)'s at bat. Freshman
Gianna Avallone (Blauvelt, N.Y.), pinch running for Russo, was brought home on a single by Banulski to knot the score.
The score would remain knotted until the bottom of the seventh inning. Snyder led off with a single to left, moving to second on a sacrifice bunt from Banulski. The sophomore scored following an error from the short stop, giving the Lions the 2-1 victory.

Jenna Turato (Garden City Park, N.Y.) pitched four innings in the win, allowing one run on five hits while striking out one. Hawks faced 11 batters, striking out five. Snyder and junior
Brianna Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) went 2-for-3 at the plate.
