KEENE, N.H. (Mar. 25, 2017) – The women's bowling team concluded their 2016-17 season at the East Coast Conference Championships this weekend, hosted by Franklin Pierce University.
The Lions advanced to the winner's bracket at the conclusion of Day One on Friday (Mar. 24). The first day of action started with a victory over Roberts Wesleyan University, 816-665. In their next match, the maroon and white faced NTCA No. 17 Adelphi University. Molloy trailed by only 12 pins headed into the fifth and deciding game, but ultimately, spare shooting by the Panthers led to an 866-801 loss. The team fell in their next match to the Pioneers of LIU Post, 792-758. The keglers fell to Kutztown 870-814 before heading into the final match of the day, a rematch against the Pioneers. The maroon and white trailed by 59 pins headed into the fifth game, but rallied to a 202 to tie the match 813-813. The two squads then faced off in a modified Baker match to break the tied. The Lions rolled a 90-65 win to end the day 3-2. At the conclusion of play, the teams then entered the elimination bracket. Based on total pinfall (4002), the Lions were seeded seventh. Molloy bowled the blind and advanced to the winner's bracket for Day Two.
This afternoon, the keglers again faced Adelphi University in their opening contest of the double elimination. The Lions could not match three 200+ pin efforts in the best of seven series, despite rolling games of 192 and 187 and fell 4-2 to the Panthers. In the next match, Molloy faced the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan. The maroon and white took an early 2-0 lead behind games of 182 and 265 before firing nine straight strikes on their way to a 265-163 victory. The Redhawks tied the match 2-2, but Molloy went ahead 3-2 after bowling a 244-165 gem. Roberts Wesleyan then rallied to capture the remaining games, picking up a 4-3 victory to eliminate the Lions.
Molloy finished the weekend at 2-5, concluding their NCAA season 10-17.
