Baseball Falls 6-3 to Bloomfield

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Mar. 11, 2017) – The Molloy College baseball team traveled to the campus of Palm Beach Atlantic University to begin the annual Lynn Invitational. The series started off against the Bears of Bloomfield College on Friday (Mar. 10). The Lions fell 6-3, falling to 2-8 on the campaign. At the plate, the maroon and white were led by junior Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) who went 2-of-4 with two triples.

Navetta's first triple came in his first at bat. The first baseman was brought home on an RBI single by redshirt senior Michael Rahn (Sayville, N.Y.) to give Molloy the early 1-0 lead. The Bears would tie the contest in the top of the third inning. Junior Anthony Lantigua (Belleville, N.J.) reached on a fielder's choice before stealing second and scoring on an error by Danetti.

Navetta tripled in the bottom of the fourth, and was once again brought home by Rahn, who grounded out to second base. Senior Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.) singled and advanced to second on an error by Bloomfield pitcher Steven Acosta (Lakewood, N.J.). Junior Elijah Leerdam (Jamaica, N.Y.) singled Alberghina over to third base before the senior scored on a sacrifice fly from senior Anthony Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) to put Molloy up 3-1.

The Bears came within one run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from junior Harry Montero (Melville, N.J.). In the following inning, sophomore Jonathan Carratala (Hialeah, Fla.) scored on a wild pitch to tie the contest before a solo home run from senior Ben Thomas (Burlington, N.J.) gave Bloomfield the 4-3 lead. A single from Juan Reina (Paterson, N.J.) would score the game's final two runs.

Ellis Sanchez (Kearny, N.J.)pitched the ninth for the Bears to earn his first save of the season while Acosta earned the win. Senior Dominic Danetti (Wantagh, N.Y.) got the loss, going 6.2 innings and tallying two strikeouts.  Juniors Luciano Morello (Hewlett, N.Y.) and Shawn Klotsche (Wantagh, N.Y.) each appeared in relief for the Lions.
