Women's Bowling Takes Fourth in Inaugural Molloy Baker Challenge

MINEOLA, N.Y. (Feb. 26, 2017) - The Lions finished fourth at the inaugural Molloy Baker Challenge, hosted at Sheridan Lanes. Along the way, the team experienced some program firsts.

In the first match on the day the maroon and white took on the Peacocks of St. Peter's University. The Lions took an early 37-pin lead but trailed by 30 pins heading into the final game. The maroon and white then rolled out a 221-effort to claim the 815-750 victory. This was the first time in program history that the Lions have succeeded against a NCAA Division I opponent.

In the next match, following a game of 236, Felician University downed Molloy by a score of 901-828. The Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University, however, then fell victim to the Lions, 736-671. In the fourth match of the day, Molloy faced off against East Coast Conference opponent LIU Post. The Lions maintained their early lead, taking the match 869-767. The final match of the tournament was a nail-biting affair, as the Molloy and Daemen College found themselves tied 645-645 headed into the final game. The Wildcats pulled out a stunning 210 performance in the final 10 frames, earning the 855-802 win.

The Lions finished 3-2 on the day, marking the first time Molloy concluded over .500 in NCAA play. The performance improves the team's NCAA record to 8-12 on the season.

Molloy next heads to Allentown, Penn. to compete at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championship Sectionals on Saturday, Mar. 11. A strong performance in the Sectional round will give the team the opportunity to advance to the Championship round in April in Baton Rouge, La.
