Four Different Goal Scorers Lift Women's Soccer Past Jefferson

Philadelphia, Pa (Oct. 27, 2017) – Led by four different scorers, the Molloy women's soccer team defeated the Jefferson Rams, 4-1, Friday afternoon at Ravenhill Field. The Lions improve to 7-7-2 with the win. Freshman Dana Poetzsch (Hicksville, N.Y.), senior Katlyn Merino (Corona, N.Y.), sophomore Amy D'Eloia (East Northport, N.Y.), and freshman Lauren Marinello (Merrick, N.Y.) all netted goals.

The maroon and white, which outshot the Rams 11-1 in the first half, opened the scoring in the sixth minute after Poetzsch finished a pass from senior Felicia LaPera (West Babylon, N.Y.). The Lions increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Merino in the 11th minute.

In the 48th minute, D'Eloia tallied her first goal of the season, which was assisted by freshman Jessica Mauro (South Hempstead, N.Y.), to make it a 3-0 contest.

Jefferson (9-8) cut the visitors' lead to 3-1 on a goal from Dena Noiseux in the 67th minute. Molloy brought its lead back to three, 4-1, on a goal from Marinello, which was assisted by junior Kim Mejia (Bayside, N.Y.), in the 81st minute.

Freshman keeper Jackie Carty (East Islip, N.Y.) made five saves in the win.

The Lions conclude the regular season Saturday, Oct. 28, when they host Daemen. Kickoff with the Wildcats is scheduled for noon.
