Reading, Pa. (Oct. 14, 2017) – The women's bowling team opened the 2017-18 campaign with an appearance at the Bud Whitman Memorial Tournament, hosted by Kutztown University. The event had the team face off in five Baker matches against five different opponents. The maroon and white went 1-4, earning a victory over #25 Dusquense University, and finished 12
th in the 19 team field.
Against the Dukes, the Lions' first victory over an opponent ranked in the NTCA Top-25, Molloy fired rounds of 238 and 223 to take an early 50-pin lead. The keglers rolled an impressive 264 to finish with a total pinfall of 1025, the highest Baker total in the program's history for the victory, 1025-877.
The team began the afternoon against the Wildcats of Wilmington University. Molloy fell in a close 912-854 match.
Next up, the Lions faced #24 Youngstown State University. Falling behind by 200 early on, the maroon and white rallied to a 196-pin effort in the second game before ultimately falling, 908-856.
Against Saint Peter's University, Molloy took an early 15-pin lead. A 256-pin game from the Peacocks, however, resulted in a 907-863 loss for the Lions.
In the final match of the day, the Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn rolled impressive games of 235, 237, and 278 to take a 1018-740 victory over Molloy.
Next up, the maroon and white head to Wallingford, Conn. to take part in Sacred Heart University's Bowl for a Cure on Saturday (Oct. 21) beginning at 10:00 a.m.
