Montaine Le Goupil-Maier (Oceanside, N.Y.) and
Samantha Bloecker (Oceanside, N.Y.) picked up their first career victories in collegiate tennis for the Molloy women's tennis team on Thursday (Sept. 8), but the Lions fell victim to a strong Holy Family squad in a 6-3 defeat at Eisenhower Park.
Le Goupil-Maier defeated her opponent in straight sets by a score of 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at the No. 2 singles position for the maroon and white. Bloecker, on the other hand, took a 7-5 first set but dropped her second set by a score of 1-6. The rookie player rallied back for a hard-fought 10-8 victory in the third set to take the point and make an emphatic statement. Bloecker went 2-0 on the day as she picked up a win in third doubles with senior
Emily Rosen (Little Neck, N.Y.) by a score of 8-4.
Molloy is back in action on Friday (Sept. 9) when the Lions open East Coast Conference play at Eisenhower Park against the Firebirds of the University of the District of Columbia. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
