ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 29, 2016) - Here is the recap of Saturday's women's rugby match from Head Coach
Melissa Olman:
"The final score does not reflect how the Lions played this past Saturday. With injuries and some freshman not contact-ready, Molloy played the first half down two players. It would be all Bowdoin as the Polar Bears put up four tries and two conversions to notch a 24-0 lead.
"For the second half Molloy would enter freshman
Ellen Murphy (West Hempstead, N.Y.), meaning that the Lions would now be playing down only one player. Molloy woke up in the second half scoring just 73 seconds in by center
Caroline Nickels (Floral Park, N.Y.), a pivotal try early in the half. Bowdoin would answer with a try and successful conversion. The Lions would not make it easy for the Polar Bears and with momentum from the try by Nickels and very successful pick and goes from the breakdown, Molloy had sudden surge.
Siobhan Coady (Floral Park, N.Y.) and
Jericka Ruiz (Bronx, N.Y.) would put up back to back tries and
Elizabeth Kaminski (West Hempstead, N.Y.) would convert on one of two conversions. The score was now 31-17 with Molloy down only two tries and two conversion kicks. Unfortunately, Bowdoin would close the door on Molloy and not let the lions over the try line again. The Polar Bears would score four more tries and convert on three of them.
"The maroon and white left the field with their heads held high with such improvement made in the second half. The Lions look to secure their first home victory against West Chester University this Saturday."
