Offense Turns On The Power in 14-4 Win Over Nyack Wednesday

Box Score UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Apr. 6, 2016) – Despite a rocky first portion of Wednesday's (Apr. 6) contest, the Molloy College baseball team rallied with 10 runs in the mid-innings to defeat the Warriors of Nyack College 14-4. Molloy improves to 18-7 on the season, while Nyack falls to 8-16.

The Lions found themselves in a 4-1 hole following a number of errors and a rough outing for junior pitcher Seth Noreman (Old Bethpage, N.Y.), but powered back with monstrous fourth and fifth innings at the dish. The rally started when senior Nicholas Gonchar (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.) each tallied two-run singles off senior pitcher Craig Jacobs (Hawthorne, N.J.). The streak continued into the fifth inning following RBI singles from juniors Brian Murphy (Elmont, N.Y.), Anthony Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.), and Alberghina in bringing the score to 11-4 after five. The remaining runs for the maroon-and-white came from a balk by freshman Connor MacHardy (Hampton, N.H.) scoring Christian Todd (Staten Island, N.Y.), an RBI singles from red-shirt junior Michael Rahn (Sayville, N.Y.) and Elijah Leerdam (Jamaica, N.Y.).

Nyack would not score after the second inning thanks to a strong performance from the Molloy bullpen. Sophomore Kevin Hiss (Merrick, N.Y.) threw four innings, giving up two hits and a walk to take the win. Freshman Lucas Burton (Glendale, N.Y.), red-shirt junior Matt Castaneda (East Meadow, N.Y.) and senior Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.) each threw a perfect inning as the maroon and white tossed seven scoreless innings in relief to shut down Nyack's offense. Jacobs was given the loss for the Warriors in the effort, allowing 10 runs (five earned) in just two innings..

Molloy College will return to action on Friday (Apr. 8) for the first set of doubleheaders in a home-and-home with the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Michel Field.
