ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2016) - The Molloy College women's lacrosse team will wrap up its 2016 regular season this weekend with two final road contests and a chance to win the team's 10th and 11th games of the season. First, the Lions will head to Chestnut Hill on Saturday (Apr. 30) and then face conference opponent UDC on Sunday (May 1) with a spot in the East Coast Conference Tournament on the line.
About the Lions
- Molloy is 9-6 overall with a 4-3 record in East Coast Conference play as the season draws to a conclusion. The Lions had a 3-1 halftime lead against tenth-ranked Dowling College on Wednesday (Apr. 27) before falling at home to the Golden Lions by a 12-8 score.
- Graduate attacker
Meghan Orlando (Hicksville, N.Y.) took the team's points lead on Wednesday with two assists, pushing her season total to 38. She now has 49 points and also has contributed 92 career assists, the most all-time in Molloy women's lacrosse history.
- Midfielders
Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and
Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.) have combined to score 69 goals and total 92 points this season for the maroon and white. Both players have been offensive threats for the Lions all season, with Sesselman scoring nine free-position goals and Wilson tallying seven.
- The Lions are 4-3 in ECC play; a win against UDC on Sunday will clinch a playoff berth for the maroon and white into its third straight ECC Championship Tournament.
The Opponents
- Chestnut Hill is 10-6 on the season with an 8-1 record in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. The Griffins will enter the upcoming CACC Championship as the No. 2 seed, having lost their last contest to Philadelphia University on Wednesday (Apr. 27) by a final score of 10-9.
- Chestnut Hill is averaging 12.75 goals per game and only allows opponents to score an average of eight-and-a-half goals per contest. Senior midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) leads the Griffins with 46 goals scored on the season while sophomore Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) has 44 points (22 G, 22 A).
- Chestnut Hill is also particularly sound on defense, with a plus-14 margin (158-144) in the caused turnover statistic. Sophomores Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) and Jaida Zabala (East Meadow, N.Y.) have 29 and 20 CTOs, respectively. Between the pipes for Chestnut Hill this season has been where junior Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.) makes her home. The starting net-minder has posted a 10-6 record overall with a 9.26 goals-against average and a .421 save percentage.
- Meanwhile, UDC is 1-11 on the season and 0-6 in conference; the Firebirds have dropped 11 straight contests since winning a 16-2 game over Hollins on Feb. 27 (the program's first-ever victory).
- UDC is averaging 4.92 goals per contest with senior midfielder Amber Walls (Temple Hills, Md.) leading the way by scoring 17 goals on the season. In net, junior Dani Falco (Middletown, N.Y.) is posting a .307 save percentage with a goals-against average of 15.58.
