Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Apr. 23, 2016) – An early five-goal deficit combined with a pesky Mavericks' defense sent the Molloy College women's lacrosse team to a 13-7 defeat on Saturday (Apr. 23) at Mercy College up in Dobbs Ferry. The loss dropped Molloy's overall record to 9-5 on the season and 4-2 in East Coast Conference action; Mercy improved to 11-4 overall and 5-2 in ECC play with the win.
Sophomore attacker
Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y.) scored a team-high three goals for the Lions, while senior midfielder
Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) added a goal and two assists. Senior defender
Chelsea Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) won three draw controls for the maroon and white as well. Red-shirt junior goalie
Caroline Winters (Baldwin, N.Y.) stopped 15 shots in cage for Molloy.
Junior Alexa Haines (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored four goals and added an assist for Mercy while sophomore midfielder Emily Jehle (Wading River, N.Y.) had three goals and two assists and freshman Hunter Isnardi (Hicksville, N.Y.) added four points (two goals, two assists). In goal for the Mavs, junior Jillian Rocco (Dix Hills, N.Y.) made seven saves to pick up the victory.
The hosts scored the first five goals in the contest, leading 5-0 with 9:18 to play in the opening half until O'Brien netted her marker to put Molloy on the board. After trailing 6-1 at the half, Markowitz and
Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.) each scored to bring the maroon and white within a 7-4 deficit just seven minutes into the second half. The Mavs, however, scored six straight goals to put the game away.
Molloy will host Dowling College on Wednesday (Apr. 27) at 7 p.m. in Rockville Centre in the Lions' regular season home finale on Senior Night.
