Box Score SHIRLEY, N.Y. (Apr. 23, 2016) - The fourteenth-ranked Molloy College men's lacrosse team suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss at the hands of ECC conference rival and No. 12 Dowling on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 23), 12-11. The loss drops Molloy to 9-5 on the season and 3-4 in the ECC while Dowling improves to 9-3 and 5-2 in the ECC.
Great performances were turned in by seniors
Kevin Teresky (South Huntington, N.Y.) and
Austin Valenti (Baldwin, N.Y.) in the losing effort. Teresky finished the afternoon with three goals, while Valenti finished with a hat trick and two assists, including an incredible assist to fellow senior
Tom Graef (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) within the final seconds of regulation to score the tying goal and send the game into overtime. Junior attackman
Connor Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) turned in a two-goal performance while sophomore midfielder
Casey Kelly (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had two assists. Senior midfielder
Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) scored a goal in his return to the lineup for the maroon and white.
The Lions showed resilience all afternoon coming back from a 5-2 deficit to tie it at the halftime break and also come back from 8-5 down in the third quarter. The Lions saved the magic for the end, as the defense of the maroon and white forced a turnover with under thirty seconds remaining in regulation. Valenti then passed the ball halfway down the field to Graef, who navigated his way through the defense and scored with 17 ticks on the clock to even up the score at 11-11. Unfortunately, the effort was not enough as Dowling senior attackman Brian White (Bayport, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Golden Lions the win on Senior Day, no less.
Molloy will play its final regular season game on Saturday (Apr. 30) at John A. Darcy Field when the Lions host the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College at 12 p.m.
