Box Score 3 ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 17, 2016) - The Molloy College baseball team settled for a split in its four-game series with Queens College, winning one of two games on Saturday (Apr. 16) in Flushing before dropping a 5-1 decision to the Knights on Sunday (Apr. 17) at Mitchel Field. Molloy is now 22-11 overall and 7-5 in ECC play while Queens improves to 15-18 on the season and 7-9 in conference competition.
Saturday DoubleheaderIn game one, Queens roughed up Molloy starter
Anthony Catinella (Middle Village, N.Y.) to the tune of six runs over three innings. The Knights would go on to win a 10-4 game with Molloy getting RBIs from
Michael Rahn (Sayville, N.Y.) and
Ryan Hensley (Franklin Square, N.Y.). The Lions had seven hits in the contest but the maroon and white fared better in the second game as junior
Bobby Kelly (Mineola, N.Y.) tossed five dominant innings and the Lions held on for a 7-5 win over Queens. In the second game of the doubleheader,
Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.) tied a single-game record by being walked four times while also grabbing a two-run single to give Molloy a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning. Kelly allowed four runs (two earned runs) and eight hits in five innings with three strikeouts to improve his record to 6-0 on the season.
Sunday - Queens 5, Molloy 1Queens starter Calvin Luk (Little Neck, N.Y.) tossed a complete game six-hitter in keeping the Lions' offense at bay while the Knights jumped on Molloy starter
Seth Noreman (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) in the first inning. Joseph Pidoto (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) hit a two-run double in the opening frame to put the Knights ahead by a 2-0 score and Queens tacked on runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings. Molloy broke up the shutout in the bottom half of the seventh inning but an RBI groundout from
Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.) was not enough offense to lift the Lions back into the mix.
Molloy will face Dominican (N.Y.) on Tuesday (Apr. 19) at 7 p.m. before welcoming Post University to Mitchel Field on Wednesday (Apr. 20) at 4 p.m. The Lions will then play a four-game conference series with Mercy College that starts Friday (Apr. 22) and continues through Sunday (Apr. 24).
