(Apr. 11, 2016) - The Molloy College softball team needed just four runs to win the first game of a doubleheader against Dominican College (N.Y.) on Monday (Apr. 11) and just one inning of good hitting to knock off the Chargers in the second game of the double-dip. The Lions won by scores of 4-0 and 9-1 at Bob Klein Field to improve their overall record to 23-13 on the season.

Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) tossed a complete-game five-hitter with seven strikeouts as her offense picked apart Chargers starter Desiree Joines (Stewartstown, Pa.) to the tune of four runs. In the first inning, sophomore shortstop
Brianna Dalton (Northampton, Pa.) knocked in two runs with a single to right-center field that extended her hitting streak to 17 consecutive games. Dalton also factored into the scoring in the third inning as she laced a pitch off the top of the left field wall to score
Ashley Fedor (Monroe, Conn.) with the game's third run. The sophomore would score on an RBI single by
Sarah Rambo (Eagleville, Pa.) two batters later to close the scoring account.
Hawks' dominant effort kept the Chargers at bay while Molloy knocked nine hits against Dominican's pitching staff; Fedor, Dalton and
Olivia Banulski (Bristol, Conn.) each had two hits for the Lions in the win.
  Game Two: Molloy 9, Dominican (N.Y.) 1 - Five InningsIn game two, the Chargers scratched a run across the plate in the first inning off of
Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) thanks to a run-scoring double off the bat of Taylor Gilligan (Medford, N.J.). While Jenna Maska (Warren, Mass.) held Molloy scoreless in the first inning, the Lions would break the game wide open in the second inning of play. The maroon and white sent 13 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs on eight hits in the blowout frame. Rambo started a run of six straight hits with a double into right-center field; she would score on an RBI single by
Erin Clinton (Long Beach, Calif.). After
Kaitlyn Snyder (Smithtown, N.Y.) loaded the bases with a deep single to center field, Balinskas drove in two runs with a base hit to right-center field. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, sophomore catcher
Alexandra Russo (Coram, N.Y.) lined a deep drive to center field that carried and cleared the fence for a grand slam to bring home four runs and put the Lions ahead by a 9-1 score. Balinskas would toss three scoreless innings afterwards to silence Dominican and vault Molloy to the mercy-rule victory.
The Lions are next in action on Wednesday (Apr. 13) at 2:30 p.m. against Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
