Women's Lacrosse Stumbles At Home Versus Assumption, 12-9

Box Score ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 6, 2016) - An early five-goal deficit proved to be too much to overcome as the Molloy College women's lacrosse team dropped a tough 12-9 decision to the Greyhounds of Assumption College on Sunday (Mar. 6) at John A. Darcy Field. 

Molloy (2-2) was led by a three-point outing from four different players, as attackers Alexa Watson (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y.) along with midfielder Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.) each scored a pair of goals and added an assist. Junior midfielder Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) had a goal and two assists for the Lions while senior midfielder Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) collected two helpers in the effort. Graduate attacker Meghan Orlando (Hicksville, N.Y.) scored a marker in the game while freshman Casie Caiazza (Melville, N.Y.) notched her first career collegiate goal in the defeat for the maroon and white. Despite taking the loss, red-shirt junior goalie Caroline Winters (Baldwin, N.Y.) made 11 saves in attaining her fourth double-digit save performance through the first four games of the season.

Leading Assumption (1-1) on the day was senior middie Julianna Molloy (Guilford, Conn.), who totaled a game-high four goals while Tori Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) and Sarah Reilly (Fairfield, Conn.) each added two tallies. Junior netminder Jaclyn Chirco (Hopkinton, Mass.) stopped 13 shots in net to pick up her first win on the season for the Greyhounds.

The Molloy College women's lacrosse team is next in action on Saturday (Mar. 12) when the Lions host East Coast Conference opponent Roberts Wesleyan at Darcy Field in Rockville Centre. The opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m.
