ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 3, 2016) - The No. 14 Molloy College men's lacrosse team has won its first three games this season, but the scores and stories from all contests indicate that the Lions have had a bit of difficulty with either the opposition or the elements. Sunday (Mar. 6) provides the maroon and white with a conference test when the team heads to Lafayette Hill, Pa. to face Chestnut Hill College in a 1 p.m. showcase.
About the Lions- After falling behind 2-0 to first-year program Georgian Court on Wednesday (Mar. 2), Molloy rolled to a 16-5 victory in a game that was dominated by the wind more than anything else. The maroon and white committed 26 turnovers with much of that accounted for by the fact that the team was playing into the biting northeasterly gusts in Lakewood, N.J. for the first and third quarters of the game.
- Dominating the stat pages for the Lions are a pair of seniors:
Kevin Teresky (South Huntington, N.Y.) has a team-high 14 points (7G, 7A) while
Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) has 10 goals and an assist for 11 total points.
- Molloy's offense is dominating opponents with a goals-per-game average of exactly 14.00, which ranks inside the top-15 among all NCAA Division II programs. The Lions are also one of 12 programs remaining in D2 men's lacrosse with an unbeaten record.
- Sophomore goalie
Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) is performing well with a 3-0 record and a goals-agaisnt average of 9.33. His save percentage, meanwhile, is at .451 which is in the lower half of the spectrum among 58 goalkeepers according to the NCAA stats.
- Junior FOGO
Frank Sciulla (Rocky Point, N.Y.) has won 58.7% (37-63) of his face-offs so far this season. His face-off win percentage is in the top-20 among all players in Division II of the NCAA.
Concerning the Griffins- Chestnut Hill has started the year with three straight losses, but a closer look at the opponents details that the Griffins are facing very difficult tests to start the season. The Griffins lost a "Battle of the Hills" with Seton Hill (No. 5) and then lost games to Tampa (No. 6) and Florida Southern (RV) most recently.
- Senior midfielder George Markey (Branchburg, N.J.) and junior attacker Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.) both have scored three goals to lead Chestnut Hill thus far this season. Unfortunately, it is not all good with the Griffins on both sides of the field...Chestnut Hill has scored 22 goals this season while allowing 42 goals in three losses.
- Chestnut Hill is yielding a shade over 14 goals per game with junior keeper Thomas McDermott (Ridley, Pa.) taking all three losses and saving just 50.7% of shots against him this season.
