Women's Lacrosse Thumps Wilmington, 22-7, as Orlando Sets Assists Record

Box Score

WILMINGTON, Del. (Mar. 26, 2016) – Junior midfielder Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored her 100th career goal and graduate attacker Meghan Orlando (Hicksville, N.Y.) became the all-time leader in career assists in the history of the Molloy women's lacrosse program as the Lions overwhelmed Wilmington University (0-6) by a final score of 22-7 on Saturday (Mar. 26) in Delaware.

Molloy (7-3) went up by two thanks to quick markers from attackers Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Kim Pepe (Levittown, N.Y.), as Orlando and Sesselman got the assists on the goals to put the maroon and white up 2-0. After a free-position goal from Sara LeBrun (Bel Air, Md.) cut the lead in half, the Lions scored five straight goals to effectively put the game away. Markowitz scored her second marker of the game while Sesselman put home three shots past Maddie Hurm (Elkton, Md.) and senior middie Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) scored a goal as well. Orlando got her 81st career assist on Sesselman's third goal, which tied Class of 2013 graduate Alexa Toscano for the most helpers in program history. LeBrun scored her second goal before Orlando claimed the record by feeding Alexa Watson (North Massapequa, N.Y.) for a goal to keep the Lions up 8-2 midway through the first half. The Lions scored the next five of six goals, with Watson and Markowitz adding to their scoring accounts. The maroon and white went into the halftime break up 13-3 with goals scored by Arianna Cavallone (Glen Cove, N.Y.), Casie Caiazza (Melville, N.Y.) and Michaela Siegler (Levittown, N.Y.).

The Lions' scoring continued in the second half as Sesselman scored her fourth and fifth goals of the game; Pepe completed her hat trick; Siegler, O'Brien and Cavallone added to their accounts; Brittany Lang (Hicksville, N.Y.) and Angela Bollettieri (Plainview, N.Y.) each scored their first goals of the game to close Molloy's scoring at 22---the highest goal total for the maroon and white all season.

Sesselman had an eight-point game with five goals and three assists, while Orlando's eight points all came on distributive efforts. Markowitz and Pepe each scored three goals while O'Brien had two goals and two assists. Red-shirt junior Caroline Winters (Baldwin, N.Y.) made four saves in the first half to pick up her seventh win. Freshman net-minder Alyssa Chetti (West Babylon, N.Y.) had three saves in the second half to preserve the victory.

The Molloy College women's lacrosse team will conclude its six-game road trip on Friday (Apr. 1) and Saturday (Apr. 2) with back-to-back games versus Chestnut Hill and UDC. The Lions will play the Griffins in the suburbs of Philadelphia on Friday at 1 p.m.
