Softball Hosts Mercy College Saturday in ECC Doubleheader

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 25, 2016) – The eight-game winning streak for the Molloy College softball team is now a thing of the past but a new run of victories began Thursday (Mar. 24) as the Lions took the second game of a doubleheader with NYIT in Old Westbury.  With the maroon and white having played six conference games this season, the battle-tested Lions will look to up the streak to three wins on Saturday (Mar. 26) as Mercy College treks to Bob Klein Field for a doubleheader.

About the Lions
- Molloy is 14-10 overall and 5-1 in East Coast Conference play. The Lions have played more ECC games (6) than any other team so far this season.
- Senior Tracey Balinskas (Edison, N.J.) has a team-best .413 batting average for the Lions. She is tied for the team lead with three home runs while also smacking 31 hits, nine doubles and driving in 17 runs so far this year. Balinskas is also 5-4 in the circle for the maroon and white.
- Freshman Jenna Turato (Garden City South, N.Y.) is 3-0 so far this season with a team-low 2.04 ERA. The rookie hurler has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 23/9, second-best to that of Chelsea Hawks (Wading River, N.Y.) (74/14).
- As a team, Molloy is hitting .294 but the team's earned run average has crept up above four (4.03). Opponents are hitting just .252 against the Lions, but Molloy's staff has yielded 15 home runs, the most in the East Coast Conference.

Concerning the Mavericks
-Mercy College is 8-9 on the season, sporting a 2-1 record in conference play. The Mavs will face Molloy in what will be the team's fourth doubleheader in five days, as Mercy is coming off of a split with non-conference opponent Chestnut Hill on Friday (Mar. 25).
-The success for Mike Fazio's club this season is in a freshman pitcher named McKaily Cusumano (Monroe, Mich.).  Cusumano is 5-3 with a 1.22 ERA and already has a no-hitter to her collegiate career as she struck out 14 batters in a five-inning perfect game against Bridgeport back on Mar. 22.
- Junior shortstop Julie Gross (Port Monmouth, N.J.) has played every game thus far for the Mavs and leads the team with a plus-.360 batting average. As a team, however, Mercy is hitting .220.
