Women's Lacrosse Defeats Bridgeport, 14-7, For Fourth Win in a Row

Box Score BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Mar. 19, 2016) - For the sixth consecutive season, the Molloy College women's lacrosse team got the better of the University of Bridgeport by defeating the Purple Knights in a 14-7 showcase Saturday (Mar. 19) at Knights Field in Bridgeport. The win moves the Lions to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in East Coast Conference play; Bridgeport is now 1-3 and 0-2 in conference competition.

Junior midfielder Cooper Sesselman (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led all players with four goals while sophomore attacker Jessica Markowitz (Baldwin, N.Y.) added a hat trick in the victory. Graduate attacker Meghan Orlando (Hicksville, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Katie O'Brien (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) led the Lions with five-point games; Orlando had two goals and three assists while O'Brien collected a goal and four assists. Freshman attacker Casie Caiazza (Melville, N.Y.) had two goals in the win, junior attack Alexa Watson (North Massapequa, N.Y.) had a goal and two assists and freshman middie Brianna Wilson (Levittown, N.Y.) scored a goal as well.

Sesselman had a team-high three ground balls and three caused turnovers as well, while O'Brien and Chelsea Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) each won a team-best three draw controls. Red-shirt junior goalie Caroline Winters (Baldwin, N.Y.) made five saves in 46-plus minutes of action to pick up the win; freshman Alyssa Chetti (West Babylon, N.Y.) made a save in 13 minutes of game play for the Lions as well.

Molloy fell behind in the contest as Bridgeport scored the first goal, but O'Brien, Orlando and Sesselman scored consecutive markers to put the Lions ahead by a 3-1 score with more than 10 minutes gone by in the first half. After the Purple Knights tied the game at three-all, Molloy scored the next 11 goals in the contest, spanning both halves in taking a 14-3 lead with 8:45 to play in the game.

The Lions will take on defending ECC champion LIU Post on Wednesday (Mar. 23) at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium in Brookville, N.Y.
