ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 18, 2016) - Florida seems so far away for the Molloy College baseball team, despite the fact that the Lions last played on Tuesday (Mar. 15) in Boca Raton. The Lions were treated to perfect baseball weather in the Sunshine State, but now return home for what was to be a three-game set with Stonehill College this weekend. However, due to a threat of extreme cold and snow on Sunday (Mar. 20, ironically the first day of Spring), the Lions and Skyhawks will only face off in a scheduled doubleheader on Saturday (Mar. 19) at Mitchel Field in Uniondale.
About the Lions- Molloy is 10-5 on the season after a 3-2 trip in Boca Raton with wins over Bloomfield, Adelphi and Lynn University last weekend. Senior
Deilyn Guzman (East Hampton, N.Y.) hit 12-for-25 (.480) in Florida with a home run and six runs batted in, while junior
Anthony Alberghina (Staten Island, N.Y.) drove in seven runs (including six against Lynn University in a 21-9 win on Mar. 14).
- As a team, the Lions are hitting .318 with junior
Anthony Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y.) posting a stellar .469 average with 10 RBIs so far this season. Alberghina has the team lead with 14 runs driven in and
Angelo Navetta (Staten Island, N.Y.) has a team-high two home runs thus far.
- The pitching has also been fairly solid as of late, with junior hurler
Ronald Bauer (Hicksville, N.Y.) sporting a 2-0 record with a 0.33 ERA and a .146 batting average against. Bauer is running up an effective streak as of late as he has pitched 22.1 straight innings without allowing an earned run. Meanwhile, red-shirt junior
Bobby Kelly (Mineola, N.Y.) is 3-0 with a 2.12 ERA and junior transfer
Seth Noreman (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) tossed a six-inning one hitter to beat Bloomfield last Friday (Mar. 11) in Florida.
Concerning the Skyhawks- Stonehill is 10-5 as well and the Skyhawks are winners of eight straight contests in the last fortnight. Senior left fielder Brian Campbell (Franklin, Mass.) is off to a tremendous start for Stonehill this season, leading the team with a .379 batting average. To go along with his high marks at the plate, Campbell has struck for seven doubles, three home runs and 15 RBIs while stealing six bases and attaining a .724 slugging percentage.
- Senior center fielder Chris Hoyt (Walpole, Mass.) is hitting .361 with 14 RBIs to completement Campbell and he also has stolen five bases. So far this season, the Skyhawks as a team are 24-30 on stolen-base attempts.
- The Skyhawks have leaders in the Northeast-10 in several major pitching statistics. Sophomore southpaw Patrick Hurley (Roslindale, Mass.) is 2-0 with a conference-best 0.43 earned-run average; senior righty John Hauck (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is tied for the lead in the NE-10 with three wins (3-0, 2.84 ERA); lastly, junior Aubrey Solomon (Groton, Mass.) is among the conference's premier closers with three saves so far this season.
