Late Four-Goal Rally Lifts No. 13 Men's Lacrosse Past Pesky Saint Rose, 12-8

Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. (Mar. 16, 2016) - Neither a first-time opponent nor a lightning delay could keep the thirteenth-ranked Molloy College men's lacrosse team from getting back into the win column on Wednesday (Mar. 16), as the Lions took a 12-8 triumph from The College of Saint Rose at Christian Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany. The maroon and white scored the game's final four goals en route to the victory, which upped Molloy's record to 6-1 this season; Saint Rose falls to 2-4 on the season.

Molloy fell behind early in the contest as senior midfielder Mike Balla (West Seneca, N.Y.) gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead within the game's first 30 seconds. The Lions scored three straight, with senior midfielder Peter Clark (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) netting two of the markers to put his side ahead by two goals in the first quarter; Saint Rose ended the quarter with two goals in a matter of 49 seconds to tie the game at three-all heading into the second quarter. Over the course of the next 19 minutes and two periods of play, the teams traded the next 10 goals to keep the score even at 8-8 with the hosts looking to spring the upset. With 11:04 to play in the third quarter, junior attackman Connor Slane (North Babylon, N.Y.) put home a feed from senior middie Austin Valenti (Baldwin, N.Y.) to give Molloy a lead they would not relinquish. The score remained 9-8 for a considerable length of time, but not due to a lack of scoring on either side; rather the score stayed stagnant because there was no lacrosse action due to a third team making its presence known---Mother Nature. Lightning delayed the action as the Plumeri Sports Complex became soaked by a mid-March rainstorm, but when the action finally resumed it would be all Molloy to close out the contest. Clark scored two of the game's final three goals, with senior attacker Kevin Teresky (South Huntington, N.Y.) netting a man-up goal in between his teammate's tallies.

Clark had a six-point evening with five goals on eight shots plus an assist, while Teresky bagged his fourth hat trick of the season in the win. Slane and Jon Camposa (Syosset, N.Y.) each scored two goals and Valenti had an assist for his lone point. The defense was furious as freshman Mike Durkin (Lake Grove, N.Y.) led the way with five ground ball pickups while sophomore long-pole Zach Antonette (Seaford, N.Y.) registered four ground balls and four caused turnovers. In cage, sophomore Ryan Toomey (Hicksville, N.Y.) made 12 saves to earn his sixth 'W' of the 2016 campaign.

The Molloy College men's lacrosse team will play an East Coast Conference tilt next Wednesday (Mar. 23) against seventh-ranked NYIT in Old Westbury at 4 p.m.
